Our Digital Modelling practice is one of seven practices within CE&ES, and is responsible for complex quantitative modelling across Europe, with clients such as the European Commission, National Governments, and private clients. We are looking at expanding our power sector and electricity modelling and research teams, and the Commercial Director will be leading this expansion and growth in this region.

About the role:

As part of our senior leadership team, you’ll play a strategically important role in launching and scaling our high-growth Energy and Power market subscription service across Europe.

As the commercial lead for the product you will inspire, coach, and develop a team of modellers, researchers, and sales executives to form the operating model for product launch and growth. You will be accountable for all aspects of the business, including short, medium, and long-term strategic direction, meeting key KPIs and financial targets, developing the pipeline for target and new markets, and managing the people and culture of the team.

The initial launch of the product will be into the Southeast Europe region and this role will need to lead the implementation of the product into this market. This will involve recruitment of the market analysis teams for the SE Europe Region; identifying, analysing, and reviewing data inputs for the SE Europe region for input into the modelling team; creation of the reports, deep dives and topical content for the subscription product in the SE Europe Region; and hosting (with their market analysis teams) webinars to communicate the results of the analysis with subscription clients.

In addition to the implementation of the SE Europe region, this role will also play a critical part in identifying and communicating with target customers of the subscription product, working closely with the sales lead to generate leads, and move these through the sales pipeline to contract closure.

This is a high priority role within the Ricardo organisation, and as such would suit someone with knowledge of the power and energy markets and how they are modelled but aspires to take the next step in their career and manage all the aspects of a data modelling product and business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership: you’ll balance the delivery of the subscription product commercial plans projects with leading, coaching, and inspiring teams of analysts and energy modellers such that they continuously exemplify Ricardo’s values, improve their performance capability and develop to their full potential. 
  • Project delivery: you’ll develop a clear and detailed understanding of the target and potential markets and customers and using this to define the medium- and long-term strategic direction of the product business. You will also oversee the implementation and management of multiple regions simultaneously (starting with the SE Europe Region), providing both internal and external stakeholders with the orientation they need to achieve the business objectives.
  • Market Analysis: you will be able to identify, gather, and quality assure critical modelling input assumptions for the power sector and electricity markets, ensuring a close working relationship with the modelling teams to ensure the data gathered is fit for purpose. In addition to gathering the input assumptions for the modelling teams, you will also be responsible for the client facing outputs (reports, deep dives, web content) to ensure that the data, visualisations, content and analysis contained within these reports meets clients needs and is robust and accurate.
  • Developing new business: you’ll independently contribute to building and deepening close customer and market relationships (initially in the Southeast Europe region, but expanding across multiple European regions) and will use these to further the brand and reputation of the product and organisation. You will the face of the brand, acting as the internal CEO of the product.

Required attributes:
