Job Description
Ricardo is looking to strengthen its busy EMC capability to support the delivery of a diverse and exciting portfolio of projects, and to help expand our offer to new clients and new territories.
We are seeking to recruit a Senior Electrical Engineer with approximately ten years’ relevant experience into our Engineering, Strategy and Performance Team. The successful candidate will lead a wide range of exciting rolling stock, infrastructure, and research-driven projects on behalf of clients such as Alstom, Eversholt, Hitachi, Irish Rail, LNER and RSSB.
The role, which reports to the Head of Engineering, Strategy and Performance, is primarily technical, helping our Principal EMC Engineers to deliver to the right quality and timescales. However, you will also work with the business development team to secure new projects and identify new clients.
You will ideally have experience writing engineering safety cases with a bias to electrical engineering issues e.g. overhead line harmonics, interference into trackside equipment and train borne interference interacting with the safety critical signalling system as well as compliance to EMC standards such as EN 50121. You will understand power electronics and machines (typically AC) & control so that the mechanisms that generate interference can be mitigated to the appropriate SIL integrity.
You need to have experience in risk assessment (Yellow book/ CSM-RA), hazid meetings, hazard records, failure modes of equipment, working with the TOC/ ROSCO etc and NR/ ORR/ RSSB.
An ability to simulate / model traction equipment and its environment, analyse measured data and use software tools such as Matlab, Diadem etc. to perform FFTs and extract critical information then put this in an engineering safety case is essential. Being able to write a technical engineering report is a MUST and form a credible safety argument that the change is safe and that the risk is controlled to an acceptable level. You also need to get interested parties where required such as the infrastructure controller (usually NR) / ORR and TOC/ROSCOS to agree with the safety justification.
In return you will have:
- A great working environment with ability to blend working in the office / at home
- 25 days holiday plus usual bank holidays and the opportunity to buy or sell up to 5 additional days
- Company pension
- Life Cover
- Permanent Disability Insurance
- Ability to purchase flexible benefits such as dental insurance, private medical insurance, cycle to work scheme, medical cash plan, computer lease scheme, lease car etc.
- Employee Assistance programme
- Access to private GP services
- Access to employee discounts portal
- Access to Udemy Learning Portal
If you are interested in joining our wonderful team here at Ricardo we would love to to hear from you.
