Job Description
Ricardo Defense has a new opening in their engineering department for an experienced Vehicle Engineer in our Troy, MI facility. This is a hybrid position that will allow for both in office and Teleworking.
This Vehicle Engineer will directly support Ricardo Defense with a new program in directed energy. This role will strengthen Ricardo Defense’s core competencies in military vehicle system architecture and complex system integration. This Vehicle Engineer will ensure that advanced military systems, including robotic and fully autonomous military vehicles, are architected, designed, and tested in concert with disciplined functional safety approaches and analyses. Tasks will include detail design, configuration management, document review, specification definition, and production/field support.
Candidates for this position must be able to perform successfully both collaboratively and independently with periodic oversight. This position requires regular interaction with customers and subject matter experts. Some travel between Ricardo offices and customer locations will be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Allocate system-level requirements to sub-system and component levels
- Collaborate with project managers, development team, suppliers and customers to ensure that requirements and expectation are adressed in all phases of the project
- Integrate mechanical aspects of new system onto a Combat Vehicle
- Evaluate the mechanical impacts of additional weight to a Combat Vehicle
- Conduct reviews with product teams to ensure requirements are being met throughout product development cycle
- Able to successfully represent the company and communicate effectively with customers
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Engineering from an accredited college or university
Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Government Secret Clearance and Common Access Card (CAC)
A minimum of fifteen years of relevant mechanical, Systems, integration engineering experience
Excellent written communication skills and ability to present standout presentations
Ability to analyze vehicle dynamics to determine how various loads placed on and repositioned on the vehicle affect the center of gravity, suspension, powertrain and other systems
Vehicle system integration experience, specifically trucks or combat vehicles
Ability to effectively collaborate in multidiscipline engineering environments
Good technical leadership, planning and organization/control skills
Experience with Product Development Life Cycle (Systems, Software)
Strong technical/vehicle integration expertise
Experience with CAD software programs such as CREO, NX, and Solidworks is a plus
Familiarity with Ground Combat Vehicle Systems
Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
Comfort level with advanced system and concept development, and in developing creative or novel safety strategies in the automation space
