We are currently looking for a Senior Air Quality Modelling Consultant  to join our Air quality team



The Air Quality & Environment Practice team of over 130 consultants, scientists and engineers develop and apply state-of-the-art tools and techniques to deliver effective solutions to difficult air quality problems.  Our team includes knowledge leaders on air quality measurement, inventory development, modelling, exposure assessment, assessment of air pollution impacts on nature sites, chemical modelling, public health impacts, information management and data visualisation. Our clients benefit from the full range of air quality services that result in solutions and strategies tailored to addressing challenges at local, city and national scales. We deliver hundreds of projects every year, to public and private sector clients in the UK and overseas, including flagship programmes such as the UK’s national air quality measurement network (AURN), the National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory (NAEI) and the annual national scale air quality modelling assessment on behalf of UK Government.



Key responsibilities


We have an opportunity for a motivated Consultant, Business Analyst, or Requirements Engineer to support the development of innovative digital tools and solutions within our Air Quality Modelling team. You will play a key role in the delivery of our work, including analysing, specifying and documenting user requirements for software tools and features. You will work closely with colleagues in software development and user experience design, as well as with subject matter experts in air quality modelling and impact assessment, to contribute to the design of key areas of software functionality.


You will be given one to one support, mentoring, learning and development via experienced colleagues, scheduled training events and a personal development plan. You will work in a friendly, supportive environment with access to a wide range of opportunities for career progression.


Specific tasks will be dependent on your level of experience, but are likely to include: discussing and analysing functionality requirements with multidisciplinary teams; developing and documenting acceptance criteria for new software features; data analysis using Excel and/or other software tools; and writing documentation.


Key competencies and experience:

  • A Bachelors (2.1 or above), Masters or PhD in a scientific subject
  • Strong numeracy skills and a talent for data analysis are essential
  • Strong MS Excel skills
  • Familiarity with requirements engineering and/or Jira would be highly advantageous
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), R or Python would be advantageous
  • Experience with air quality modelling and assessment, or other environmental consulting topics, would be advantageous
  • Experience in a consultancy or in any customer facing commercial environment would be advantageous
