Ricardo Energy & Environment delivers evidence-based insights that help governments and citizens understand and improve the environment in cities, regions and countries.  Combined with our world-leading environmental experts, our in-house team of digital and data science professionals helps to monitor and understand air quality in cities, explores the environmental impact of new forms of transport, develops analysis tools that inform better water and energy use, and delivers a wide variety of software applications.

Our Digital Services team work in collaboration with Ricardo’s wide range of internationally recognised experts across these environmental sectors, creating new and innovative solutions. You’ll be joining the newly formed and fast-growing Data Science team.

Purpose:

You’ll be joining a friendly and professional team of developers, data scientists and environmental consultants.  You will provide guidance and mentoring to support implementation of best practice in Python data science projects, utilising a professional software development approach.

This is a varied role in which you will have the opportunity to work on different projects and gain broad exposure to the world of environmental consultancy. You will also work collaboratively with professionals within the business to introduce them to professional Python development concepts. A key part of the role will be to mentor and upskill data scientists and analysts, creating a standardised and professional development approach to Python development throughout the business.

Key competencies and experience:

  • Strong proficiency in Python, with 3+ years of professional experience
  • Demonstrable experience of:
  • Developing data pipelines, manipulating and cleaning data, extraction of data
  • Writing automated test suites
  • Using version control systems (Git)
  • Experience in mentoring junior staff and developing capability in teams
  • Interest and ability to learn and apply new technologies
  • No previous experience or education in the environmental sector is necessary, but a passion for what we do is essential
