Job Description

Ricardo Defense has an opening for an experienced Systems Engineering Architect to join our engineering team. This Systems Engineering Architect position will primarily be remote with occasional travel possible to our office or customer sites.


The Systems Engineering Architect will support both commercial and military systems development. The Systems Engineering Architect will perform analysis of system requirements, assessments of technology, design, integration, test and manufacturing readiness using Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) tools. This role will focus on the analysis and integration of complex systems for the military, energy and environmental markets. The Systems Engineering Architect will assess advanced emerging software and hardware technologies, develop system models and architectures, conduct integration analyses, and ultimately support the development of system and subsystem prototypes for test and evaluation activities.


Candidates for this position must be able to perform as part of a systems engineering development team and also be able to work independently with periodic oversight. This position requires regular interaction with customers and subject matter experts.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop engineering objectives, complete analyses and engineering trade studies
  • Analysis of engineering requirements, development of system architectures and models, test plans, prototypes, etc. throughout a project’s lifecycle
  • Develop materials related to the preparation and conduct of engineering technical reviews, such as a System Requirements Review, System Functional Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, and Test Readiness Review
  • Support key technology areas to be integrated into future vehicle system modernization efforts and also apply MBSE techniques to commercial energy and environmental domains in support of Ricardo-led projects/initiatives
  • Support management of the project’s technical work and coordinate project activities with customer requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university in engineering or other relevant field
  • Ability to obtain a United States Government Secret Clearance. The minimum requirement to obtain a clearance is United States Citizenship. Only applicants meeting the requirements will be considered

  • A minimum of 12 years of relevant systems engineering experience
  • Experience with Model-based system engineering and the development of integrated system models that provide traceability from system requirements to system testing. This includes the use of UML in decomposing functional requirement, developing use cases, capturing block diagram designs, defining interfaces, and creating an architecture of physical components (HW/SW)
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to present standout presentations
  • Ability to effectively collaborate in multidiscipline engineering environments
  • Demonstrated technical leadership, planning and organization/control skills

Preferred, Not Required Experience:

  • Experience with DoD terminology, missions, and ground vehicles, preferably with the US Army
  • Experience with Product Development Life Cycle (Systems, Software)
  • Knowledge of Requirements Management Process and Requirements Management tools (Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, DOORS, etc.)
