Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Senior Rolling Stock Engineer, the Rail Vehicle Engineer will play a pivotal role in providing rolling stock support services. This includes conducting comprehensive reviews of international high-speed trainset/train systems best practices, developing trainset systems requirements and performance specifications, and supporting the trainset procurement process.  Additionally, the Rail Vehicle Engineer will be instrumental in supporting industry development of high-speed rail regulations and standards, while ensuring seamless coordination with various operating agencies to maintain interface integrity. The position is based in the Rail Engineering Section, which forms an integral part of the Rail and Operations Delivery Branch.

 

Key Competencies and Experience

  • Procurement Support: Assist in trainset procurement activities, conduct research on industry best practices, refine trainset performance specifications and associated RFP documents, and ensure compliance with FRA Code of Federal Regulations
  • Technical Support: Provide rolling stock technical support to CHSR regional teams, engineering teams and various working groups.
  • Coordination: Coordinate efforts with external agencies such as FRA, state and local agencies, and vehicle manufacturers to address new requirements and technologies.
  • Regulatory Support: Assist in federal and industry development of high-speed rail regulations and standards.

Skills and Behaviours

  • Recent graduate with a strong interest in technical research and knowledge-sharing.
  • Knowledge of high-speed rail systems, trainsets, regulations and industry best practices.
  • Ability to conduct thorough research, write specifications, and support procurement processes.
  • Excellent communication skills with the capacity to engage with industry stakeholders effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with CADD (AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred, or relevant bachelor’s degree with demonstrated expertise.
  • Familiarity with transportation projects and rolling stock equipment regulations/standards is desirable.
