Ricardo have a very successful chemical regulatory and safety business, and we are looking for a technically and commercially competent lead for our REACH capacity in the European Union and UK. Ricardo’s Chemical Risk business provides a range of regulatory compliance services to companies across the world, primarily addressing the UK and European regulatory regime but with global touchpoints, including REACH, CLP / GHS. Services include SDS authoring and review, mixture notifications, software as well as chemical hazard and risk assessment consultancy with our world leading expertise in persistence and biodegradability. We also work closely with our Policy team and have secured work relating to emerging and current regulation and policy for the EU and the UK, including delivering the landmark impact assessment on the EU Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability (CSS) for Cefic.

 

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to build on our current success and prepare Ricardo for the future of REACH compliance within Europe and globally. You will work with a successful team and continue the strong growth trajectory as the world implements more regulations to safely manage chemicals. This is an ideal role for someone who wants to take ownership for a high growth potential ‘product area’, make their mark and drive significant business performance

 

We need you to be a proven leader in REACH primarily, and broader chemical regulatory compliance secondarily, to plan and lead Ricardo’s future work within Europe around REACH topics and compliance. This will include expanding our REACH consultancy offerings, capitalise on excellent growth and new market opportunities, and cross-Ricardo collaboration. You are to be a seasoned expert consultant with superb people leadership skills to our people providing technical and commercial leadership and working with our strong new business, account management and marketing team in the NCEC area. You must have proven expertise in REACH consultancy, be an expert communicator, understand the commercial opportunities and challenges and be a fantastic collaborator (both internally and externally), with strong customer project/relationship management skills.  

 

Key accountabilities

The REACH lead will be responsible for:

  • Identifying growth opportunities, new consultancy and product offerings within the REACH sphere, and potential industry challenges based on market conditions, legislative change and customer demands. Driving the future development of the function and the chemical risk teams as a whole
  • Overseeing the undertaking of a range of client work, including contribution with your own specialisms as needed.
  • Using extensive technical knowledge to contribute to delivery at the project manager or project lead level and be the technical sales leader for the area.
  • Coaching and knowledge sharing with team members, helping others to grow their knowledge of the REACH regulation and how it applies to clients.
  • Supporting other technical areas including Safety Data Sheet authoring, Poison Centre notifications etc.
  • Excellent project management and customer management skills, allowing you to manage our clients proactively, delivering excellence and winning repeat business.
  • Liaising with marketing and sales staff to ensure effective promotion of Ricardo’s REACH capabilities in support of sales activities to grow these areas and designing effective marketing strategy with the Sales Director
  • Supporting client relationship and the account management team by joining key customer discussions and identifying new areas of opportunity with the client
  • Collaborating and identifying strategic opportunities and new products and services with other Ricardo business area including in our environmental chemistry and toxicology, chemicals policy team, agriculture and water businesses on a global basis
  • Keep up to date with market trends and developments and provide technical support to colleagues in the development of new service offerings and creation of technical papers
  • Support wider market outreach, including presenting at conferences, building and engaging with a personal network, and positioning Ricardo as a strategic partner externally.

Key competencies and experience

  • Experienced in leading, or contributing to, the development and implementation of a business strategy with respect to chemical regulatory consultancy specifically related to REACH
  • Providing extensive knowledge (and existing relationships) in the UK and European chemical regulatory landscape with specific specialism in REACH and emerging government policy (e.g. the CSS). Global expertise would be desirable.
  • A skilled influencer and coach who enables the team to successfully deliver regulatory consultancy projects and supports personal development of team.
  • Performing and managing high quality technical consultancy in the field of chemical regulatory affairs and an effective delegator of work.
  • Be an excellent communicator and used to presenting your ideas and project outputs to customers and at regulatory conferences, at events or through webinars, blogs etc
  • Bring your own network of contacts from customers and stakeholder organisations
