Job Description

Position Summary:

Develops and secures a growing stream of profitable engineering consulting orders within a Product Group in support of Ricardo’s strategic plan. Coordinates internal resources across functions to deliver engineering projects to customers. Responsible for technical excellence, selling, and financial project control.


  • Identifies opportunities in automotive, commercial and government markets through analysis and networking to develop leads and convert to sales, both individually and jointly with our market focused business development and engineering team
  • Collaborates with senior leadership team to identify and create new service offerings in vehicle systems
  • Leads interfaces with multiple clients to identify potential needs
  • Develops workable client solutions and integrates solutions into proposals
  • Provides technical leadership in identifying and devising innovative solutions in engineering services
  • Confers with others to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness and customer demand for new and existing services
  • Coordinates internal technical staff to establish capability with customer; leads project teams through alignment and delivery of technical deliverables, tools and methods consistent with client engagements and needs
  • Stimulates internal knowledge and interest in new innovations and emerging advanced engineering technologies; educates technical and non-technical staff in their uses
  • Forecasts operating costs for projects and prepares project reports
  • Identifies, integrates and standardizes best practices with respect to key technical deliverables such as modeling and other technical analyses
  • Delivers superior levels of customer service to both internal and external customers while demonstrating Ricardo’s core values of respect, integrity, creativity and innovation, and passion
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; Master’s degree preferred
  • Ten years related experience of vehicle systems (such as suspension, steering, brakes, structures, thermal, fuel and electrical), including responsibility for engineering solutions for the product from design to application
  • Good knowledge of automotive, commercial and military vehicle R&D business
  • Strong understanding of vehicle systems engineering from clean sheet new vehicle concept through to vehicle launch
  • Strong understanding from the perspective of overview and direction of a wide array of vehicle simulation tools
  • Must have successfully delivered, from a lead position, at least two significant vehicle programs (commercially, technically and on-time)
  • Strong product development work content, timing and deliverables knowledge
  • Experience seeking new business opportunities and convert them into well defined and efficiently resourced proposals
  • Understands customer needs, wants and ensure on-going positive relationships
  • Experience in project leadership and managing programs involving multiple disciplines and departments, without direct reports
  • Experience selling and delivering complex engineering projects
  • Solid knowledge of industry-standard legal and business language, including familiarity with contracts, NDAs, IP, payment terms, proposals, pricing, margins, etc. Strong financial skills
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and listening skills
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
  • Ability to work well with people, in a team environment, and to communicate effectively both written & oral
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, matrix organization
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Power Point and Project
