Energy & Environment, one of Ricardo plc’s five operating business units, is a leader in sustainability consultancy, solving complex environmental challenges through industry-leading analysis, advice and data. With more than 40 years of heritage in addressing air quality, environmental and sustainability issues, our customers value us for our deep understanding and breadth of services covering the entire value chain from evidence, policy & strategy to implementation.

 

We are currently looking for a Senior Consultant to join our transport modelling team.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Working as part of a growing, multidisciplinary team working on different transport and environment topics for a variety of customers
  • Leading and contributing to the development and use of intermediate and complex models as part of project work
  • Contributing to the maintenance and further strategic development of Ricardo's existing modelling tools
  • Leading and contributing written content and technical analysis for the preparation of reports
  • Leading and contributing to the development of proposals for new work
  • Leading specific project tasks and projects

 

Key competencies and experience

  • Data analysis, modelling and model design skills are essential
  • Knowledge of sustainable transport and its environmental impacts is essential
  • A first or upper second-class BSc (or Masters/PhD)
  • Quantitative modelling skills with experience in the development of models and scenarios to assess options to reduce the environmental impacts of road transport is essential. Experience in modelling the impacts of other transport modes is also desirable.
  • Familiarity and experience with Excel spreadsheet-based modelling (where VBA experience would also be a benefit) is essential
  • Experience in at least one other programming-based platform (for example, R or Python) is highly desirable
  • Experience in the quality assurance (QA) of models is also desirable
  • Experience in quantifying transport and energy costs and their business models is also desirable.

 

Skills and behaviours 

  • Excellent report-writing skills and verbal communication skills
  • Effective and proactive team worker, capable of supporting and developing peers and other staff members
  • Previous experience in consultancy or in a customer facing commercial environment an advantage.
  • Fluency in English is essential, fluency in other languages is desirable
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral and basic presentation skills.
