Job Description

Position Summary:

The FEA Analyst primary role will be to assess structural integrity of vehicle and chassis components, as well as engine and transmission systems when required. You will use both 3D finite element simulation tools as well as classical methods.

Essential Functions:

  • Applies theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to the solution of basic analytical engineering problems
  • Conducts classical calculations in tools such as Excel, MATHCAD, Python, and Matlab/Simulink
  • Conducts FEA simulations using commercial FEA codes: geometry preparation, meshing, model setup and debug, running the simulation and post-processing results using typical simulation tools
  • Confers with senior engineers and supervisor to obtain necessary guidance and direction
  • Prepares detailed technical presentations for both internal and client project engineering review
  • Interfaces with internal and external clients to deliver updates, design recommendations and analysis results
  • Working on multiple projects within project constraints, including scope and timing to deliver engineering work according to client, Ricardo and Program Management requirements and expectations
  • Provides timely and accurate department reports as appropriate and requested

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required:

  • MS degree in a suitable engineering field
  • 2-5 years of professional experience as a FEA analyst performing vehicle related simulations
  • Experience with at least one pre/post processing tool (Altair Hyperworks is preferred)
  • Experience with at least one commercial FEA analysis code (ABAQUS and OPTISTRUCT are preferred)
  • Experience performing linear and non-linear static finite element analyses
  • Experience performing modal analysis
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Comfortable writing technical reports
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and Power Point

Preferred:

  • Experience performing dynamic analyses in the time and frequency domain
  • Experience performing forced response analysis
  • Awareness of commonly used methods for calculating fatigue life
  • Advanced coursework in material/metallurgical science, structural mechanics and fatigue
  • Advanced coursework in numerical methods including finite difference/finite element methods
  • An awareness / understanding of engine, transmission and vehicle structural systems
  • ITAR Compliant
  • Significant experience analyzing vehicle and chassis components such as suspension, knuckles, subframes etc. for new vehicle programs
  • Some experience of crash analysis (RADIOSS is preferred)
  • Experience working in a consultancy environment
