We are currently looking for an Analyst Consultant to join our Air quality and Environmental team based in East Hendred, Wantage, Oxfordshire. 

Whats Involved 

The Air Quality & Environment team of around 130 consultants, scientists and engineers develop and apply state-of-the-art tools and techniques to deliver effective solutions to difficult air quality problems.  Our team includes knowledge leaders on air quality measurement, inventory development, modelling, exposure assessment, chemical modelling, public health impacts, information management and data visualisation. Our clients benefit from the full range of air quality services that result in solutions and strategies tailored to addressing challenges at local, city and national scales. We deliver hundreds of projects every year, to public and private sector clients in the UK and overseas, including flagship programmes such as the UK’s national air quality measurement network (AURN), the National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory (NAEI) and the annual national scale air quality modelling assessment on behalf of UK Government.

 

With growing pressure on businesses and governments around the world to meet stringent standards and regulations, the ability to accurately measure particles in the air is an essential requirement that can pose a significant challenge. Accurate measurements of the spatial and temporal distributions of particles and understanding their behaviours enable businesses to improve their product performance, reduce costs and demonstrate conformance to industry regulators and with government air quality standards. Ricardo Energy & Environment’s experts help industry and government comply with legislation, supporting organizations through our key services – such as equipment calibration (essential for demonstrating to regulatory authorities the validity of measurements), and we carry out monitoring and quantifying airborne particles in a wide variety of scenarios. We have ambitious growth plans and are now seeking to strengthen our laboratory and technical support team at our Ludbridge Mill Laboratory.

 

Although, this role will sit within our Evidence and Policy business unit you will work collaboratively across all areas of Ricardo Energy and Environment.

 

Key Responsibilities

As an Analyst Consultant in the Particle Measurement Centre (PMC) you will be required to follow documented procedures to ensure that equipment checks and calibrations are made to a high standard, and that data are accurately recorded and made available to project staff and customers in a timely manner. Duties will initially include working alongside colleagues in the PMC and providing support for off-site experimental work. Once fully trained you will be expected to work independently both within the Ricardo laboratory facilities and at client sites.

  • Some UK (mainly in the West Midlands), and potentially overseas travel will be required.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to work away from home for extended periods for up to two weeks per month on average.
  • this role requires physical elements of lifting, lab work and visits.

Day to day activities include:

·        The testing, calibration and documentation of air quality measuring instrumentation across the UK

·        Liaison with site operators to arrange visits

·        Data processing and reporting

 

Other technical duties will include:

- the preparation and routine maintenance of equipment,

- ensuring that laboratory, workshop and store areas are kept in good order for use by colleagues and clients including senior technicians, scientists and engineering staff.

- Client liaison will be a key feature of the role.

Essential:

  • This role requires a Full, clean UK driving licence with solid driving experience  - checks will be made
  • Good numerical and computer literacy skills are essential;
  • A degree in Physical Sciences or Engineering is an advantage, but not essential; candidates who can demonstrate relevant experience will also be considered
  • There will be some physical requirements to this role: either through travel or lifting of equipment, etc.
  • Although practical familiarity with monitoring equipment and calibration procedures would be desirable, we recognise that suitable candidates will be able to gain these skills rapidly with  suitable training
