If you are familiar with the Environmental Sector, then chances are you have heard of us. We are one of only a few consultancies that can provide the comprehensive range of environmental services we do.  Many of our consultants are leading experts in their fields. We are extremely proud of what we do - we help our clients solve some of the world’s most complex environmental challenges and provide governments, public agencies and businesses with leading analysis, advice, and data.

Purpose:

We are looking for Project Manager with experience of managing portfolios of projects associated with environmental assessment related to the water sector.

We have an extensive project portfolio that encompasses, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), water resources environmental assessment (including for example, Water Framework Directive, Habitat Regulation Assessment, Natural Capital and Biodiversity Net Gain), plus numerous ecology and water quality related programmes of work for UK water companies, water regulators, government and local authority clients.

The successful individual will be expected to lead and manage a range of projects. An average portfolio might include 1-2 large projects ranging from £250 – £500K+ plus a range of smaller technically-specific focused projects across a range of water and ecology disciplines.

All our project managers will be expected to have exceptional project management skills related to budgeting, resource management and delivery for both internal and client facing processes and programming.  This includes ensuring that the necessary project data and information (such as risks and issues and financial and resource forecasts) are fed through the appropriate channels and systems as part of the regular cycle of management and reporting.

Our senior project managers will also be expected to be able to provide a client-facing role to articulate the linkages between different technical strands of work and hence establish strong relationships and demonstrate our overall technical experience.  As part of this role, it is also expected that the project manager will be able to identify both extensions to current work and potential new opportunities for discussion with Ricardo’s Senior team and Project Directors.

You will need to demonstrate:

  • An understanding of the water sector primarily in the UK
  • Have a relevant degree that ideally demonstrates a sound overall environmental background
  • Preferably a professional qualification in project management
  • Experience of project management from a consultancy perspective
  • A track record of managing all elements of water and environmental projects from start to finish
  • The ability to manage of a range of multiple projects simultaneously
  • An effective and collaborative approach to working with the project team, water companies, developers, design engineers, sub-contractors/contractors, planners, and regulators to help achieve positive outcomes for projects
  • Excellent team working skills together with strong communication skills and a close attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to drive a project forward within budget and on time
  • The necessary IT skills to ensure that appropriate internal and external project management data and information is compliant and delivered as required
  • Experience of building and maintaining relationships with customers through project and bidding activities
  • A proven track record of resource management to ensure the appropriate capability and capacity is available from the technical teams across multiple projects
  • Sufficient technical understanding to support our technical leads and specialists to integrate complex work strands
  • Experience of stakeholder communications and management including pulling together presentations for clients to support technical leads
  • Ability to develop follow-on work and new opportunities as they arise from existing work.
  • Ability to provide solutions to customer problems

The successful candidate will need to be enthusiastic and self-motivated to thrive in this busy and demanding environment whilst at the same time work closely with Project Directors and teams from a range of disciplines.
