Job Description

Ricardo Canada, Inc., is looking for a Project Engineer to join our team immediately. Our head office is located at 160 Elgin Street, Suite 2600, Ottawa, Ontario, K0A 3P0. Our current project office is located at 97 Front St W, Toronto, ON M5J 1E6, Canada. In this role, the employee will be working primarily from our current project office along with at other client sites throughout Ontario and, where appropriate, remotely.

This is a permanent, full-time position of 40 hours/week with an annual salary of $176,000 plus benefits including medical and pension, along with 20 days’ vacation. The language of work for this position is English.

The main responsibilities for this position include:

  • Overseeing and managing teams tasked with the delivery of engineering products throughout the project lifecycle, providing assurance that it complies with the requirements of the relevant standards and regulatory obligations, and is ultimately capable of acceptance back onto the network safely and on time;
  • Developing and implementing processes to deliver, monitor and review multi-functional engineering outputs that comply with the project schedule, budget, safety, environmental and quality requirements;
  • Developing and monitoring project processes for design and construction activities to deliver an integrated system architecture able to achieve whole life reliability, maintainability, operability and cost effectiveness targets;
  • Reviewing technical submissions from clients;
  • Consulting with clients to identify, review and assess technical project information for purposes of developing detailed designs, reports, and proposals, including expected budgets and timelines;
  • Reviewing certification process with clients;
  • Overseeing and directing project engineering assurance teams with mandate of confirming safety, environmental and quality of design, construction testing, and commissioning and management systems are appropriate;
  • Monitoring progress of design and construction to achieve reliability, maintainability, operability and cost effectiveness;
  • Managing the introduction of new or amended system architectures including the attainment all necessary approvals prior to Entry Into Service;
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and technical standards, and following internal procedures to remedy any non-compliance;
  • Developing new tools/techniques to meet the needs of clients, identifying best practice from other markets or countries as required, and teaching new skills to others as appropriate;
  • Where appropriate, pursuing business development opportunities, drafting proposals in response to ITTs and leading the negotiation process as required, demonstrating market knowledge and applying commercial acumen appropriately;
  • Arranging for training sessions for technical staff as needed; and
  • Reviewing, providing feedback and approving work performed by other team members.


You must have the following qualifications:

  • Degree in engineering or closely related discipline;
  • Extensive experience as a Project Engineer;
  • Extensive experience working in Conventual Railway;
  • Membership in an engineering professional association preferred;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office and engineering software such as FEA, Dynamics, CAD
