The Role:

As a result of our growing pipeline of work we are looking for an Associate Director to join our environmental assessment team. This position is to lead the environmental assessment team in directing and managing existing projects as well as securing work with both new and existing clients. The environmental assessment team provides technical expertise in all areas of environmental assessment including EIA and SEA.

 

Ricardo Energy and Environment has established a reputation as one of the leading players in the UK covering the water sector. We are working on major strategic resource projects across the country for a variety of water companies. In addition, we undertake environmental assessment work, including EIA, for developers and local authorities in a range of sectors from waste and energy to mixed use development.

 

Key accountabilities:

  • You will lead the UK team in delivering environmental assessments, particularly into the water sector.
  • You will lead, direct and manage our environmental assessment (EIA and SEA) projects and inputs using internal and external resources.
  • You will be responsible for direct interface with key clients providing technical expertise on the environmental aspects and impacts of their projects.
  • You will be responsible for the technical and commercial delivery of projects and bids and ensuring they are completed within agreed timescales and budgets.
  • You will participate in the preparation/presentation of proposals/bids including estimating timescales and costs for proposed works.
  • You will have responsibility for technical review and sign off all environmental deliverables, including Scoping/Screening Reports, Environmental Statements, and materials produced for consultation and consenting.
  • You will also play an integral role in the continued growth and success of the environmental assessment team and wider business.

 

Day to day, you could expect this role to involve:

  • Responsibility for managing and delivering a broad range of projects including bidding, client management and quality assurance.
  • Technical and commercial responsibility for the projects to be delivered and to help grow the environmental assessment team / business.
  • Whilst the post will be based in one of our Ricardo offices, the role will involve work across the rest of the UK and there maybe occasional opportunities to be involved in projects abroad.
  • These are just a few examples of the role responsibilities and work we are currently delivering.

 

Key competencies and experience: 

You should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A post graduate level qualification in environmental assessment or equivalent level of experience
  • Proven professional consultancy experience
  • A sound technical understanding/capability within the field of environmental assessment (EIA and SEA).
  • A comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislative and policy frameworks, available guidance and industry best practice relevant to the delivery of EIA and SEA.
  • A good understanding of the relevant planning and consenting regimes for EIA and SEA work.
  • Experience of project management, budget control and leading projects
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplinary environmental teams and providing liaison and integration across project elements.
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability and experience in engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including public and statutory consultees
  • Strong leadership, project management and governance experience, with the ability to influence decision-making.
  • Ability to work closely with clients and other members of the professional team and playing a pivotal role in establishing the brief and developing solutions that meet and exceed our client's expectations.
  • Experience of providing strategic advice to clients
  • Confidence in key account management and commercially astute, helping secure new and repeat business.
  • Knowledge of working in the water sector
  • Chartered status / Full Membership of a recognised relevant professional body (e.g. Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA)). Where a candidate does not meet this requirement, you would be expected to achieve this as one of your priorities in your first year.
  • A willingness to travel and a full driving licence.
