Ricardo Energy & Environment is a leading sustainability consultancy combining energy, climate change, environmental and chemical risk expertise with strong IT and economics capability. Operating across the world, we work in partnership with our customers to help transform the way they work, empowering business leaders with award winning consultancy advice. With unrivalled sector insight and a reputation for producing innovative solutions, we offer a stimulating and rewarding environment in which to work.
Ricardo Energy & is steeped in a long corporate track record of running Government programmes to support a range of activities in the environmental agenda. To this day we run many multi-year grant, innovation, business support and environmental evidence collation programmes. All with an environmental or low carbon theme utilising our skill as programme designers, managers and technology experts.
We believe that the stimulus supporting the low carbon, NetZero and COVID green recovery agendas will mean Governments around the world will be looking for experienced partners to design and implement programme of work for the future to stimulate the economy and meet climate change targets over the next 10+ years. We are already delivering some of the new UK Government programmes associated with the green recovery, and are looking to expand our existing team with experienced staff with monitoring officer skills to support delivery.
Monitoring Officers ensure that funded projects proceed according to the Terms and Conditions of their funding offer and that payments are only made when supported by satisfactory project progress. Monitoring also provides a mechanism for assessing performance in a wider sense along with detecting and dealing with areas of underperformance for example across the scope, time, cost, risk management and project planning / management. The Monitoring Officer is integral to the issues escalation process and making recommendations that are submitted to the funder.
You will be a key part of the team working with our ‘Head of Energy Programmes’ and other senior stakeholders and project team members across the organisation.
The candidate must have;
A good basic technical knowledge in low carbon technology/energy efficiency/sustainability will be valuable although not essential as Monitoring Officers are not expected to act as an ‘expert adviser’. - The MO's experience may allow them to discuss specific project issues but they should not advise or direct the project on a particular approach. These roles are great for junior consultants and project managers working in the low carbon sector as they benefit from learning a great deal themselves about new technologies and/or sectors.
Ideally the job holder will have:
- Experience in consultancy and/or project management, ideally with experience in decarbonisation-related subjects.
- Excellent communication skills as they need to build relationships with the grant recipient and if required have the confidence to talk directly to the customer.
- Outstanding, planning, organisation and communication skills – to be tested through the interview process.
- Professionalism and confidence to attend project meetings/site visits independently and/or with the client.
- A high level of attention to detail – the ability to follow policies and procedures in a systematic way and to provide a thorough line of review of reported deliverables and spend reports.
- A demonstrated ability to keep to deadlines and be responsive to calls for action.
This is an exciting and rewarding place to work, with the opportunity to make a difference. You will have a fantastic opportunity to develop your career with us through our broad range of projects, mentoring opportunities and a personalised approach to your learning and development.
We are always keen to hear from people who have driven, ambition and a flair for innovative thinking. Ricardo Energy & Environment has an ambitious diversity, equality, and inclusion approach as explained here.
