Job Description

 Consultant – Life Cycle Assessment

  £22,500 to £27,500

Do you want to work for a leading international sustainability consultancy in a growing team?

Ricardo Energy & Environment has an exciting opportunity to join our LCA team. Reporting through our Sustainability business area, you will help clients to understand and then reduce their environmental and social impacts. A key tool in this process is life cycle assessment (LCA), which examines such impacts across the full life cycle of a product or service. Demand for this type of work is outstripping our team’s resources, so we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated consultant, capable of supporting and delivering LCA projects and wider work around sustainability, the circular economy, carbon management and energy efficiency.

Ricardo Energy & Environment is a leading sustainability consultancy combining energy, climate change, environmental and chemical risk expertise with strong IT and economics capability. Operating across the world, we work in partnership with our customers to help transform the way they work, empowering business leaders with award winning consultancy advice. With unrivalled sector insight and a reputation for producing innovative solutions, we offer a stimulating and rewarding environment in which to work.

Key accountabilities:

With our training and support, you will work with a collaborative and supportive team of 5-10 consultants, across a wide range of LCA projects that vary in complexity and encompass many different sectors. You will work directly with each client to collect and collate the data required for the study, and be responsible for carrying out necessary research and literature reviews relevant to the project subject area and data requirements. Our expert team will help you learn to build LCA models using this data, in Microsoft Excel and in bespoke software packages such as SimaPro as well as supporting you to further enhance your skills in these areas.

You will help the client to understand how sensitive their results are to changes in the underlying data. You will also prepare project reports for each client, explaining the work and its results in plain English so that they can see how to make improvements based upon the LCA results.

We anticipate you will also be involved in many projects for other parts of the Sustainability business area, perhaps supporting audits, exploring opportunities in the circular economy or helping with environmental reporting.

Key competencies and experience:

Ideally, we expect you to have some professional experience of LCA, or at least be able to demonstrate an understanding of how they work. You will have completed a higher education qualification (Bachelor’s Degree) in an environmental discipline or otherwise to have a fair track record working in an environmental role, so that you can demonstrate your knowledge. You should be up-to-date on environmental affairs and have a keen interest in pursuing a career in this area. Experience of working in the consultancy sector will be valuable, to demonstrate that you have the necessary commercial awareness, but we are also interested to talk to candidates currently performing environmental roles directly within industry.

Skills and behaviours:

  • You will need to be comfortable and confident in spreadsheet calculations (though we will provide training to enhance your capabilities). Similarly, your writing skills must be strong, so that you can communicate clearly and without errors. As indicated above, we will be giving you significant responsibility for the delivery of client work. You must therefore have a natural attention to detail, and the ability to move work forward independently. In our Sustainability business area and LCA team, we really enjoy the great work we do, so we will be looking for someone with a similar attitude – enthusiastic, committed, responsible, open, reliable and ready to learn.

Working here:

This is an exciting and rewarding place to work, with the opportunity to make a difference. You will have a fantastic opportunity to develop your career with us through our broad range of projects, mentoring opportunities and a personalised approach to your learning and development.

We are always keen to hear from people who have driven, ambition and a flair for innovative thinking.  Ricardo Energy & Environment has an ambitious diversity, equality, and inclusion approach as explained here.

Our People are important to us and we take pride in our wellbeing programmes and policies that support individuals including flexible working, carers policy, mental health first aiders and readily available support through our extensive Employee Assistance programme.
