Role Title: Analyst Consultant – Sustainable Infrastructure & Operations


Location: Flexible but preferred Harwell, Manchester, London or Glasgow

The Sustainable Infrastructure & Operations Business Unit (BUs):

The BU’s focus is the decarbonisation of energy supporting the netzero and low carbon agendas. SI&O is made up of ~200 people covering a range of disciplines at the ‘implementation’ end of the client value chain. We run a number of very prominent Government funded projects and programmes and 500 lives projects every year.   In the last year we have done some really important pieces of work including Netzero sector strategies and critical work to define Netzero options in the public sector alongside a range of private sector work. This includes; technology appraisals, net zero strategies, life cycle assessment, circular economy advice technology and techno-economic studies, technical auditing, regulatory development and compliance, smart grid solutions, carbon management, developing and optimising local heat and energy systems.

The role sits across the Business Unit and is a fantastic opportunity for the right person to experience the broad range of different things we do. The roles ‘home’ will be in our chemical regulatory team who will provide the baseload of work, ~2-3 days a week. The rest of the time you will support projects across 4 other business areas; Power Planning & Solutions, Sustainability, CHP & Heat and Waste & Resource Management and also our wider business unit operations. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to get involved in a range of projects and operational activities which is likely to lead to you moving into one of the business areas full time over a longer period based on performance.



We are seeking an intelligent and self-motivated science/engineering graduate to join the SI&O team. This role will provide the perfect first step into a consultancy career in an exciting and rapidly changing sector.


You'll be part of a team supporting more senior consultants in delivering projects to clients.  You will have excellent numeracy and analytical skills gained from a scientific or engineering background, strong writing skills, a proactive, organised approach and a commitment to producing high quality work with a high level of attention to detail.

We expect our Analyst Consultants to enjoy solving complex problems and to have, or be keen to develop, technical expertise in one of our fields.


You must have the following:


  • A Bachelors (2.1 or above) or Masters, in engineering, renewable energy or physical science
  • A high level of numeracy and a talent for numerical analysis
  • A professional and diligent approach
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Be flexible, proactive, resilient and enthusiastic
  • Be able to work independently and demonstrate initiative, as well as operate effectively as part of a team


You will need to hold a Full UK Driving licence for this position, as the post will include UK travel as part of the delivery of our CHP and Renewable Heat audit programmes.



  • Knowledge of renewable heat technologies and systems
  • Experience in the environment or sustainability sector including work experiences, final projects or wider interests
