 Role Title:  Analyst Consultants – Climate Action Planning & Transparency

 Salary: up to £24k-28k, dependent on capability and experience

Location: Flexible (all), preferably Bristol, London or Harwell

We now have an opportunity for 2 x Analyst Consultants to support a range of exciting and innovative projects within our in our Climate Action Planning & Transparency team.

Key Accountabilities

As an Analyst Consultant, you will provide research and analytical support to our team of international experts in order to deliver a wide range of projects to various clients at local, regional and national level, in the rapidly developing area of Climate Action Planning & Transparency. This includes greenhouse gas inventories and projections, identification and tracking of climate change actions and targets, tracking support (such as climate finance), and international reporting requirements. Your role will also directly support the design and implementation of climate action plans and policies, and Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems, or elements thereof, for local, regional and national governments around the world. This may include international travel, subject to Covid-19 restrictions.

You will manage your time across several projects, including within the Climate Action Planning & Transparency team and with other teams in the Evidence & Policy Business Unit as required. Specific tasks will be dependent on your level of experience and interests and will vary, but are likely to particularly include data analysis, calculations and modelling, including developing GHG inventories and projections, bespoke tools and assessments, and using third party software. You will also be involved in supporting the development of dissemination of outputs, through report writing, training and capacity building activities. This includes developing materials for workshops (virtual or in-person delivery), where you will have the opportunity to make active contributions to technical meetings, interviews or training sessions with clients and stakeholders. The role will also include research and policy analysis, production of guidance and publications, and supporting the writing of plans and policies for clients. Given the variety of projects the team works on, you will be a self-starter, responsible for the quality and delivery of your work, and will work alongside other consultants to incorporate your contribution into wider project outputs.

In all aspects of this role, you will work as part of a cross-disciplinary team of expert consultants. We have recently completed or are currently carrying out projects in a wide range of countries in South America, Africa and Asia, including supporting implementation of the Paris Agreement goals, Nationally Determined Contributions, capacity building for low carbon development, as well projects supporting climate emergencies and ‘net zero’ in the UK. You will contribute to both the delivery of this existing exciting work and the development of future projects we undertake, developing your skills and expertise, and contributing to the team’s business development plan.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

Essential:

  • A Bachelors (2.1 or above), Masters or PhD in a scientific or environmental subject
  • An interest and awareness of key environmental and climate change issues
  • Experience and a high level of skill in research and data analysis
  • A high level of numeracy and an interest and talent for data analysis
  • Strong PC literacy – especially in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Desirable:

  • Experience in a consultancy or in a customer facing commercial environment
  • Experience and technical knowledge of GHG accounting and reporting
  • Familiarity with databases. Any knowledge of wider data management software e.g. MySQL or R would be an advantage.
  • Willingness to work overseas on short term assignments
  • Fluency in a second language
