Position Title: Bid Development Manager – Ricardo Rail UK & EMEA

Grade: D

Salary : £40,000 - £50,000 DOE, plus excellent benefits including Private benefits, 25 days holiday plus private medical insurance

Reporting to: Finance Manager UK & EMEA

Within that group, Ricardo Rail is a 600-person multi-disciplinary railway consultancy providing expert advisory and independent assurance services across the UK, Europe, Middle East and Asia. The UK business employs c120 consultants in offices in London, Preston, York, Bristol and Derby.

Bid Development Manager

We are seeking to appoint an industry experienced Bid Development Manager. The essence of the role is to ensure that any proposal a customer receives is of a consistently high standard in order to achieve a maximum win rate.  Regular progress reporting on bid development activities and status of the overall portfolio is also key.

Accountability / Key Responsibilities

Manage the bid/no bid and proposal writing process to ensure timely allocation of owner, review, approval and submission of proposals

Co-ordinate and review industry on-line portals for new opportunities and ensure ownership by the wider Rail team

Review key proposals before submission to ensure completeness, consistency of content, formatting and style, reflection of all RFQ details and overall professional perfection

Analyse key RFQs and make sure that the proposal content reflects all aspects of the RFQ

Work closely with the technical leads and business development teams to produce the proposal content for key bids. Gather technical input, challenge anything that is not of the highest possible standard, put together the final proposal and assure appropriate review and sign off before submission

For larger, complex proposals, where necessary organise workshops to develop content by bringing together multidisciplinary teams for facilitated bid development

Provide writing support to ensure that Ricardo’s capabilities are reflected in the most compelling way possible

 Lead a bidding cultural change programme (including training and mentoring) to enhance Ricardo’s offerings

Liaise with the technical leads, account managers and experts in the business to maintain a modular library of proposal material (introductory passages, case studies, capability overviews, graphics etc) and templates to be used across the organisation to achieve a consistently high level of output

Work with the business to develop a ‘house style’ relating to layout, language and visual appeal of proposals

Personal Attributes

In order to be successful, you will be able to demonstrate the following.

Qualifications:

• Relevant Bachelor or Masters Degree

• Minimum 5 years of relevant industry experience

• 3 years of experience with a considerable element on bid writing, track record of writing successful bids

Technical expertise & skills:

• Skilled bid writer with a track record of success

• Exceptional writing skills and an excellent command of the English language in terms of grammar, spelling and punctuation

• Excellent MS Office skills (creating templates, graphics etc. in Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

• Ability to bring teams together to focus on defined tasks to tight deadlines

• Ability to read, interpret and share complex information

• Meticulous with strong attention to detail; proven ability to deliver to a high standard

• Ability to manage multiple tasks to a high standard and against multiple deadlines

• Robustness in challenging any input that is not up to the required standard while maintaining a positive relationship
