Sustainable Transport Team Overview

Ricardo Energy & Environment’s Sustainable Transport Team delivers analysis to clients on the major environmental, social and economic challenges facing the transport sector.  We provide support to governments to help develop a fully sustainable transport system, including measures to improve fuel efficiency, reduce pollution, improve safety, cut congestion and improve urban mobility.  Our work is highly influential and has been used to support development of transport policies around the world.

We are seeking an intelligent, self-motivated graduate to join our Sustainable Transport team as an Analyst Consultant. From day one, you’ll be part of a team supporting senior consultants in delivering high-profile projects. Our work is focused on strategic policy advice on a range of transport sector issues for clients such as the Department for Transport, the European Commission and Transport for London.

The successful applicant will have excellent numeracy and analytical skills, strong writing skills, a proactive approach and a commitment to producing high quality work. We expect the Analyst to have an interest in the transport area and to enjoy creative problem-solving.  Projects will cover a broad range of topics that assess the impact of policies and/or technologies on the transport system, the economy, the environment and society.

Key accountabilities:

As an Analyst, you will carry out research and analysis that underpins our consultancy work. You will manage your time across several projects, contributing to research, data analysis, stakeholder engagement and report-writing. You will be responsible for the quality and delivery of your work and liaise with other experts and consultants to incorporate your contribution into wider project outputs.

This is a varied role and you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects; in the morning you could be conducting a literature review to help shape policy surrounding workers’ rights in the freight industry and in the afternoon you may be analysing data in order to help support a report on the use of electric vehicles.

Key competencies and experience:

  • A Bachelors (2.1 or above) or Masters in a numerate subject, such as economics, engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, computer science or related fields;
  • Strong computer literacy - especially in MS Excel and Word. Knowledge of R and Python are desirable;
  • Be able to work independently and demonstrate initiative, as well as operate effectively as part of a team;
  • A previous specialism in transport is not required, but a strong interest in transport policy is essential;
  • Fluency in English is essential. Fluency in other languages is desirable but not required.

This is a fast-paced and challenging environment offering you the opportunity to make your mark. You will have support from the wider business for your career to develop into a wide range of future opportunities within Ricardo Energy & Environment.

In return for your commitment, drive and enthusiasm, we offer an attractive benefits package, a personal development plan, and the opportunity to make a difference in a challenging and rewarding field. Ricardo Energy & Environment is an equal opportunities employer.
