Job Description

The Opportunity:

Ricardo Defense is looking for an experienced Software Systems Engineer for our Huntsville, AL location.

What You Will Do:

The Software Systems Engineer will turn customer needs into software system requirements with scalable architectures and realizable designs. This role will strengthen Ricardo Defense's growing software portfolio by providing quality, sustainability, and maintainability. The Software Systems Engineer will use model-based systems engineering to ensure that software systems are architected, designed, integrated, and tested following disciplined engineering approaches that incorporate cybersecurity best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Elicit customer needs following a strong customer engagement process
  • Perform requirements analysis, decomposition, and management
  • Develop architectures for Software as a Service (SaaS), multi-tier, PC-based, embedded, and mobile software systems
  • Transform system-level requirements into detailed software-level requirements
  • Create specifications and design documentation
  • Lead milestone reviews for requirements, functions, designs, and test
  • Develop integration and test plans and procedures
  • Establish network and computing architectures for software deployment
  • Develop and perform demonstrations of software systems
  • Collaborate with customers, software developers, and project management to ensure that requirements and expectations are fulfilled
  • Evaluate user experience and software usability
  • Successfully represent the company and communicate effectively with customers

Qualifications We Value:

  • Experience with model-based systems engineering
  • Experience in functional, behavioral, and human systems analysis
  • Experience with Product Development Lifecycle
  • Fluency with a standard modelling representation such as UML, SysML, or UPDM
  • Experience using Model-Based Systems Engineering and/or Requirements Management tools (e.g. DOORS, Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, etc.)
  • Familiarity with modular open systems approach
  • Familiarity with multiple software frameworks and operating environments
  • Knowledge of Software Development and Agile methodology in practice
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas succinctly and persuasively to peers, management, and customers
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge and experience in cybersecurity (e.g. Security+. Certified Ethical Hacker, etc.)
  • Experience with software development in multiple programming languages

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university
  • 8+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Ability to pass a government background check and obtain a Secret Clearance
