Job Description

Position Summary

Projects technical and business leadership with our customers in the West Coast location for Electrification and Automation Technologies, working with the local and global teams. Directly assists the business development team in support of Ricardo's strategic growth plan. Coordinates staffing availability and strategic recruiting needs across function to help grow the Santa Clara office to 20 to 25 heads by the end of 2019. Actively assists in achieving order intake for the location to meet or exceed targets, leading at least two advanced customers programs locally. Actively engages with the global technical community for development and dissemination of attractive offerings in the market.

Core Responsibilities

  • Liaison with the Ricardo US Business Development, Program Management and Delivery teams to ensure successful growth of the Santa Clara facility and advanced technology areas
  • Accountable for engagement with EMEA and RI, to seek out and develop capabilities and offerings in advanced technologies for the whole US region
  • Supports the Business Development team with visiting customers, including traditional OEM's, Tier 1 suppliers, new market entrants and start-ups to grow client base and sell offerings, particularly in advanced technologies
  • Writes successful proposals in own specific lead areas or supporting the PM team for wider proposal writing needs
  • Responsible for leading won work where appropriate, particularly in the Santa Clara office, drawing on the US and EMEA teams
  • Prepares SCTC technology related facilities development via CAPEX, staff training and safety requirements
  • Accountable for developing the local team and growing through recruitment
  • Leads the development and evaluation of technology road maps for HES and CAV aspects of the business, including relevance to the local customer base
  • When appropriate, responsible for developing and pushing approval for local and RI R&D projects, resources and funding (large and small) to ensure engagement in the Silicon Valley technology scene
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering; Master's degree preferred
  • Ten years of leadership and delivery in advanced technology projects, preferably in hybrid and electric vehicle systems and systems integration activities
  • Demonstrated business development experience linked to strategic planning with examples of effectively delivered strategy, particularly in high-growth areas
  • Strong business and commercial skills with an understanding of financial drivers and shareholder value; solid knowledge of industry-standard legal and business language, including familiarity with contracts, NDAs, IP, payment terms, proposals, pricing, margins
  • Knowledge of industry practices in buying, selling, funding and decision-making processes; competitive dynamics, business models, relevant legislative or regulatory drivers
  • Strong but customer-aware negotiation skills (knows how to 'Get to Yes'); ability to influence
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively multi-task
  • Excellent communication skills, presentation and collaboration skills; ability to condense complex issues into succinct messages
  • Strong problem solving, analytical and listening skills
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic and matrixed organization
  • Ability to travel as required to develop business and work with clients on projects
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
