Located at our client in Auburn Hills, this candidate will be responsible for the design release, developing and delivering through design release, engine systems that meet the agreed functional, cost, quality and operational requirements, within the budget and time constraints required. The position will involve close communication and cooperation with overall project teams, engineering technical specialist support functions, clients and suppliers. Technical task management is key to achieving delivery of systems through application of Ricardo Product Engineering or Client processes.

Essential Functions:

  1. Generate the specification of the system to ensure it meets the requirements in terms of cost, weight, performance, durability etc
  2. Initiate and maintain system documentation in support of program reviews such as SDS, BOM, FMEA, DVP&R etc.
  3. Progress the system design through the engine program gateways to ensure that parts are released to support DVP activities and meet production timing
  4. Lead and manage the system FMEA and DVP to ensure the system is robust
  5. Manage suppliers of the system components to procure hardware for prototypes, development and production
  6. Lead problem solving and issue resolution to maintain the engine program timing
  7. Work to client quality procedures and validation processes
  8. Mentor more junior engineers and graduates in the Engineering Team
  9. Deliver superior levels of customer service to both internal and external customers while demonstrating Ricardo's core values of respect, integrity, creativity and innovation, and passion
  10. Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering; Master's degree preferred
  • Design and release of systems through to production
  • Knowledge or experience of product engineering processes would be an advantage; these could include:
  • Preparation of system and component specification documentation
  • Preparation of FMEA's
  • Preparation of BOM's
  • Supplier management
  • Structured problem solving (8D)
  • Engineering component quality procedures (SQA)
  • Understand Test and development procedures
  • Read technical drawings and specifications
  • Experience in CAD or CAD visualization tools
  • Gateway and product release process
  • Ability to coordinate and understand information from multiple engineering functions
  • Good task planning and control
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good customer and supplier management and liaison skills
  • Comfortable in meeting environments, and be able to put forward full and reasoned arguments, based on data analysis
  • Previously mentored and developed more junior members of the team
  • Excellent PC skills
  • Good report writing and presentation skills is essential
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Access and Power Point
