UK Summer Electrical Engineering Internship 2018 (Derby)

What you’ll be doing

Our aim is to provide you with an insight into our business, whilst gaining valuable experience of Electrical Engineering to support your studies. You will be given the guidance and support you need to ensure you make the most of your time with us, as we want you to make a valid contribution to our business throughout your placement. In order to develop quickly, you will be given a real taster of the role and given real responsibility

Reporting to a Senior or Principal Engineer your typical responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking and supporting design work from concept through to installation on railway vehicles
  • Specifying and sourcing equipment and components
  • Supporting design work with the production of calculations and the provision of technical data to demonstrate compliance with standards
  • Site surveys at railway vehicle depots
  • Preparation of installation and modifications procedures to support the installation of new equipment onto trains
  • Attend and participate in meetings with equipment suppliers
  • Attend and support meetings with the client representatives
  • Assist with the developments of bids and proposals for new pieces of work

To join the Ricardo Rail UK internship you need

  • To be studying for an Engineering degree (BEng or MEng)
  • A genuine interest in the rail sector
  • Enthusiastic and engaged attitude and eager to learn
  • The desire to work on a variety of projects in multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills combined with client-focus and a hands-on approach
  • To be able to travel to travel and stay for short periods of time in other UK-locations (travel and subsistence will be provided)
