Due to continued growth we are now looking to strengthen our safety engineering and project support capability to help lead the growth of this business area and support the delivery of existing and new projects.

Job Summary:

The role we are seeking to fill is that of an Infrastructure Safety Engineering Consultant to support our Infrastructure Safety Engineering business area.

Critical to this is experience of the railway domain, safety engineering and risk assessment principles such as CSM and Yellow Book.

You will work on the delivery of projects providing support in the role of Hazard Log/record manager and acting as the secretary at Hazard identification meetings.

You will also perform risk assessments and deliver CSM safety engineering project work which will require you to have a good knowledge of railway infrastructure systems such as track, signalling or electrification/civils.

In addition you will provide project support to project managers to ensure bids are co-ordinated and managed from enquiry through to delivery of the bid and projects are regularly reviewed as required by the business and that invoices are issued accurately and to timescale.

In addition you will provide marketing and admin support to the service leaders and team leader to ensure marketing reports and utilisation forecasts are co-ordinated and managed accurately and to timescale.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Support and contribute to the delivery of projects, including attending meetings with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Manage the hazard log/record for infrastructure safety engineering projects.
  • Attend and act and record keeper at Hazard ID meeting.
  • Liaise with consultants and contractors on project issues, and interface with clients on both a technical and contractual matters.
  • Provide project support to ensure projects are reviewed and invoiced.
  • Co-ordinate bids to ensure they are managed and delivered through the bid lifecycle.
  • Support the development of proposals.
  • Maintain and develop your own competence and knowledge.

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Degree educated in a suitable discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer or equivalent through a relevant professional institution, or able to achieve.
  • Experience of one or more rail disciplin:

             o   Signalling and Railway Control systems (including ETCS/ERTMS)
             o   Electrification
             o   Track Systems

  • Experience of business development and client management.
  • Project Management from proposal to closure.
  • Safety engineering (The Yellow Book, Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment and equivalent) and EN50126/9, or equivalent from another industry.
  • Analytical and methodical problem solving.
  • A visible passion for the rail industry
  • Versatile and adaptable, able to operate under pressure
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Flexibility to travel in the UK and short durations overseas if required
